In a digital age, everything an organisation learns, decides and delivers is data. The name is a commitment to look after it all.
TIM Consulting is an independent Australian technical data management consultancy, founded by Antony Wilkinson in 2017 and backed by a team with 40 years of combined experience across defence, aviation and manufacturing programs. TIM Consulting delivers consulting and training services to help organisations understand contractual technical data requirements, deliver compliant technical publications, and build the internal capability to manage that work long term.
Antony Wilkinson fell into technical data. Fifteen years in the Air Force, in various roles across maintenance support and operations, then joining a small family business specialising in technical data where he was first introduced to the S1000D specification. From there, years inside the machinery of major defence primes, an MBA earned along the way, and a growing list of organisations asking him to help them directly.
TIM Consulting opened its doors in 2017 and celebrates 10 years in operation in 2027.
TIM Consulting brings together complementary ways of seeing the same problem: the commercial and contractual view, and the deep technical one.
Known throughout the industry as AJ, Antony approaches technical data from the business side. Projects, governance, information management, and the commercial reality of what a contract requires an organisation to deliver. He has run programs, rescued programs, and reviewed other people’s deliveries from the customer’s perspective.
Reeta provides the technical depth. She came to S1000D through an unusual door after a decade in legal accounting, then years spent running support, and later worldwide software management, for a specialist S1000D software house. She has spent twenty years working within the specification, the XML, and the tools, and she teaches all of it.
One finds the idea; the other works out how to build it. Both perspectives are applied to every engagement.
TIM Consulting is backed by a team with 40 years spent in S1000D, XML and SGML. Technical data has been delivered as the supplier and accepted as the customer for programs ranging from battlespace communications to land vehicles, patrol boats, frigates, aircraft carriers, and drones. Major capital acquisitions across Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, most of them running three years or longer.
It has also been taught in classrooms and virtually to students across most of the world. TIM Consulting is listed on JOSCAR, the supplier accreditation register used across the defence industry.
Small business is the backbone of Australia and, in this industry, the forgotten part of it. The small machine shop contracted to make one component must still deliver the technical data that accompanies it, against specifications written for corporations with entire departments.
The big end of town addresses that problem with software that costs more than a mid-range CNC machine. TIM Consulting answers it differently. Right-sized tools, plain guidance and practical training, so a small supplier can meet the requirement, retain ownership of its own intellectual property, and stop being squeezed on price for work it is entirely capable of owning.
That is the gap TIM Consulting exists to fill.
“
Small business is the backbone of Australia, yet it’s often overlooked. Access to experienced technical data expertise shouldn’t require an enterprise size budget. That’s why TIM Consulting exists.”
A confidentiality agreement (NDA) is standard practice before any documentation is reviewed.
Most technical data relationships begin with a sample. Real documents are restructured so the result can be judged before any larger commitment is made. Software is recommended honestly, because TIM Consulting doesn’t sell any. And where there’s a choice between training a client’s people to own the work and quietly becoming permanent, the training wins.
The initial consultation is provided at no cost and without obligation.
Technical data developed as both supplier and customer provides practical insight into how deliverables are created, reviewed, and accepted.
Recommendations are based on project requirements, not software partnerships, reseller agreements, or commissions.
Consultancy, training, or a combination of both helps organisations develop long-term capability while retaining ownership of technical data and processes.
Clearly scoped engagements, straightforward quotations, and no hidden costs.
No technical data question is too large or too small to be worth asking. Whether the requirement is S1000D, Integrated Product Support (IPS) S-Series specifications, Business Rules, legacy data conversion or technical publications, an early conversation is usually the cheapest step in the whole project.
